You can check AirPods Max charge from a nearby Apple device or by reading the status light on the right earcup. The light reports charge level; it is not a battery-health test.
Check charge on iPhone or iPad
- Remove AirPods Max from the Smart Case.
- Hold them near your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Bluetooth settings, find AirPods Max, and tap the information button to view the charge level.
Check charge on a Mac
On a Mac, open Control Center and choose Sound to check the AirPods Max charge information.
Read the status light
The status light is on the right earcup. Press the listening-mode button to check it. The meaning of the light depends on whether AirPods Max are connected to power:
- While connected to power, green indicates at least 95% charge.
- When not connected to power, green indicates at least 15% charge.
Amber indicates charge below the applicable green threshold. The amber behavior differs by generation: AirPods Max 1 shows steady amber, while AirPods Max 2 briefly pulses or flashes amber. Use model-specific instructions if you are unsure which generation you have.
What about Android?
Apple’s documented instructions describe checking AirPods Max with Apple devices and using the headphone status light. They do not provide a universal Android battery-percentage procedure. On Android, use the headphone status light for the documented charge indication and check your phone’s own Bluetooth settings for any device-level display it supports; do not rely on iPhone battery-widget steps.
Charge level is not battery health
A charge reading tells you how much charge the headphones currently report; it does not show how much capacity the battery can hold compared with when it was new. If they do not last as long as expected, the status light alone cannot identify the cause. Consult Apple’s model-specific support guidance for charging and service.
