ABS stands for Antilock Braking System. The ABS warning light results from an internal short in one or more components and needs to be fixed before it can turn off again by itself.

The ABS consists of an electronic control unit that handles inputs from the vehicle’s motion sensors and computes outputs based on algorithms in the software program code to allow braking under emergency braking conditions while keeping the brakes locked.

Different cars have different operating systems. To figure out if disconnecting your battery turns off your ABS light, you need to ask yourself what kind of car are you driving? If you’re driving a Ford, it’s possible that disconnecting your battery will make the Hid system go off, but it won’t turn off your ABS light in car. If you’re driving a Nissan, it’s probably not going to turn off your ABS light, but it will reset the Hid system so that everything goes back to normal next time you start your car.

If you’re driving and your ABS light keeps coming on, quickly pull over to safely check under the hood to see if anything obvious popped off or came unplugged. It’s too late to do anything about fixing whatever might have come undone, but you can still pull over and stop the car before it becomes a bigger issue. If you cannot safely pull over, continue driving until you find such an open space. Turn off your engine as soon as possible so that no more damage is done.

If you’re driving a Ford, the ABS module will probably reset itself, and everything should go back to normal after disconnecting the battery. If you’ve got an older model Nissan with Hid lights, the ABS light might turn off, but it won’t fix any underlying problems with the system.

Will disconnecting the battery Turn off the ABS light?
