The first time you see your smoke detector flashing red, it’s a good idea to figure out what the light means. For some people who are new to home safety, this can be a frightening experience. Some sources will tell you that the red light on smoke detector indicates there is an electrical problem with the device, and for others, it signifies a low battery warning.<\/p>\n

What does flashing red light in a smoke detector mean?<\/h2>\n

Many different possible things can happen to a smoke detector, including a low battery, dead batteries, and chirping. These events mean the same thing: Change your smoke detector’s batteries.<\/p>\n

To most smoke detectors, a flashing red light on a smoke detector is a sign that the battery is low or dead which needs to be replaced. If you don’t change it when this happens, your smoke detector<\/a> will not function when you need it most in case of an emergency.<\/p>\n

Different smoke detector models vary in how the low battery<\/a> indicator is activated. Many times, an audible alarm will also sound when there is a low battery<\/a> in some units. Let’s take 9120 and 9120B smoke detector models, for example. Both of these smoke detector models are hard-wired to your home’s electrical wiring, except that the 9120B has a battery backup. These were in normal operation when the green LED light is on with red LED flashes<\/a> once per minute. Red LED flashes once per minute and chirps once per minute for low or missing battery messages only for the 9120B model.<\/p>\n

To some models, flashing red light means<\/a> it is receiving power. This only means that red flashing light to different models means a different thing. Be sure that you have your instruction manual with you all the time and familiarize yourself with the various settings of your specific model so you can adequately respond to the different flashing lights.<\/p>\n
