It’s not possible to replace the battery in this key fob. But, if you are thinking of saving from visiting a service center, the battery can be replaced in a more complex procedure. You may do this by cutting the case and inserting the new battery. This key fob uses a VL2020 battery. However, the manufacturer does not recommend this procedure as it may pose the risk of damaging the electronics of your key.

Reminder: Please note that not all these key fobs have a replaceable battery. One way to know if your key fob has a replaceable battery is by checking the back of the key fob. If it has a score cut at the center, then the battery in this fob is replaceable. If the back of the key fob is smooth with no cuts or indentions on the side, then you cannot open this key fob which means the battery is not replaceable.

How often should you change the key fob battery?

Most batteries in car key fobs will last between three and our years with normal use. Of course, the life of the battery will depend on how often you use your key fob and how you take care of it. If you are using the key fob often, then it may be best to change out your battery every other year to make sure that it stays well-functioning and fresh.

It is also ideal to change the battery as soon as the signs of a dying battery appear. If you press the button on your key fob and nothing happens, then there is a good chance that it needs to be replaced. This will avoid inconveniences such as having to unlock your car door with a key or not being able to lock the doors.

Maintaining your BMW in a tip-top shape means keeping up with all the little things like replacing the dead key fob battery every once in a while. It’s not that difficult to do, and you can do it yourself to save some money as well. Make sure that you use the recommended battery for your key fob model. This will ensure that your key fob will perform the same as when you first got it.

Do not ignore changing the battery in your BMW key fob because you will regret it later. It is also ideal to keep a spare battery just in case you need to replace it.
